Clean Cooking Initiative
About 2.4 billion people around the world, predominately in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia lack access to clean, modern cooking options. Most communities depend on carbon-emitting methods of cooking such as charcoal and wood burning fires. They contribute to the black carbon emissions in the air that significantly impact the quality of health of women and children.
Lack of access to clean cooking contributes to about “3.7 million premature deaths annually, In Africa alone, women and children account for 60% of early deaths related to smoke inhalation and indoor air pollution.” (International Energy Agency). According to the World Health Organization “women and children are disproportionately affected by household air pollution, due to levels of exposure and because they often spend a significant part of their day collecting the fuel—firewood for instance—needed to cook a meal. Residential solid fuel burning accounts for up to 58 percent of global black carbon emissions and a gigaton of carbon dioxide per year—approximately 2 percent of global emissions.”
Future Perspectives is committed in supporting the use of clean cooking alternatives especially in the rural communities to improve on clean energy, accessibility, good health, and education.
Our focus areas are Advocacy, Training, Education and Partnerships.
