Building a Sustainable Africa
Future Perspectives in collaboration with Africa Fintech Foundry and the Sustainability team at Access Bank hosted an interactive dialogue with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Building a Sustainable Africa with African youth from across the continent on November 29, 2024. Young Africans sent in questions about Building a Sustainable Africa answered by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Dr. Greg Jobome, Executive Director and Chief Risk Officer who also leads the sustainability team at Access Bank.
Access Bank, as a leading financial institution, recognizes its role in promoting responsible environmental stewardship, stimulating socially responsible development, and engaging in ethical practices. The management approach to sustainability is predicated on best practices and covers the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. The bank's sustainability strategy has continued to evolve as it constantly seeks to meet the demands of a dynamic and fast-changing world.
The general belief is that climate action and economic growth are incompatible, that is; to realize effective climate action, you must sacrifice growth. This is a price African youth are not willing to pay, as they are the generation that will live through the consequences of climate change.
Teamwork, thinking outside the box, and ensuring youth engagement are the avenues that economic growth and effective climate action can work together for Africa's youth to achieve Climate Positive Growth.
The interactive dialogue series is part of the Africa Future Earth Initiative (AFEI), powered by Future Perspectives to empower real grassroots solutions to combat climate crisis.
